Good sites for weightlifting and fitness information.

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

I was looking around the web for good full body routines and decided I would bookmark some of the better links here (and see if people have some of their own links or workouts to share).

Exercise prescription site (I really like this one).

IronOnline (Dave Draper)

About.com has an excellent exercise/fitness section

MuscleTech site (lots of supplement/juice head stuff, but good info too).

BodyBuilding.com (same as MuscleTech).

And of course T-nation

No one is above suspicion

U.S. Copyright Office issues new rights

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Hmmm, interesting question… The U.S. Copyright Office issued new rights this week. Including the right to crack software that requires a physical dongle for protection if the dongle is damaged or unusable. I wonder if this applies to any physical restriction device placed between the user and the fair use of the software they paid to use…

Since Microsoft and other companies have started the practice of keying registration codes to a series of CD's (your registration key might not work with just any Windows CD), and Microsoft seems adverse to giving out new CD's for damaged ones, could the CD be considered a dongle and the cracking of your copy of Windows legal per the U.S. Copyright Office?

I'm only working with the high level overview from the Yahoo article, but it is an interesting question none the less.

Wisconsin motion argues sex with animal carcass not a crime

Friday, November 17th, 2006

Bryan James Hathaway age 20, is facing charges that he had sex last month with a dead deer. Hathaway, who previously has served time for killing a horse he intended to sexually assault, allegedly found the deer in a ditch alongside a roadway.

Now Hathaway's lawyer has filed a court motion (a copy of which you'll find here) arguing that since the animal was already dead, Hathaway should not face a misdemeanor rap of sexual gratification with an animal. "The statute does not prohibit one from having sex with a carcass," lawyer Fredric Anderson wrote in the motion filed in Douglas County Circuit Court.

Affirmative action banned – Government

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Affirmative action banned – Government I had been meaning to post this since the election but have been very busy. What I find interesting is that while the general masses were electing democrats into power, those same masses were voting largely for conservative resolutions, such as the ban on affirmative action or against gay marriage. I had told the evil one about this vote and quickly learned that it has received almost no media attention. Imagine that.

Black Friday is the day after thanksgiving, when the big stores have amazingly cheap sales for those who are willing to get up early and wait in line for the limited quantities of product available…

Why does the shift to Democrat control have to be about Iraq?

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

I just had to vent a little.

Strange how both parties and virtually the entire news media have centered on the "War in Iraq" as the reason for the Republican loss in the mid-term elections.

Why not list is a part of a group of reasons which may well include:

  • Americans are tired of having their privacy invaded in the name of a faceless boogie man.
  • Americans are weary of an administration that seems to have little regard for constitutional rights.
  • Americans grow weary of lack of adequate attention being paid to important issues. For example Identity Theft/Fraud, Fair credit practices,
  • Americans see that the current crop of "Borrow and spend", "Big Government" Republicans (not quite a stereotype yet, but I'm pushing for it) are not much better for the future financial good of this country than the "Tax and spend" Democrat stereotype.
  • Americans are just generally not happy with the government and took the "Vote Out the Incumbent" mentality, which I see as significant based on many people I know and their voting habits (I actually have some approval of this thought process as believe a change of faces is generally good).

Please comment your own points to the list if you see fit, I know I missed quite a few (actually I listed my own personal reasons for dissatisfaction).

I wonder if both parties make the changeover's central caues the "War in Iraq" because there is not going to be much difference on the other points (from Kerry's campaign last election I do not see much hope that the Democrats are going to take government away from the "Big Brother" path they are following now). Let's see if the new crop can cut spending, or if at least a little gridlock can slow the spending process…

Democrats must be careful to "remember they are mortal" as the populace voted them out of power back in 1994… Hmmmmm did they learn anything? I'd bet not…

Climate chaos? Maybe not…

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Just when I had given up on finding anything interesting tonight, This little beauty on “Global Warming” from the telegraph news popped up.

Then I remembered that a couple of weeks ago I was discussing my views (mostly regarding IPCC’s big splashy statements with little scientific proof) on Climate Change theory with a friend of mine, who confronted me with the statement that “There is not one single published scientist who disputes current global warming theory”. I personally believe scientists are often like economists. 50% of them will always disagree with the other 50%. Thus  universal consensus is not possible. I looked up a few links to send him, but got busy and had forgotten about them. Since I found the telegraph article above, I thought I would throw them into the post…

Before anyone goes off into a rant I would like to state that I believe the following:

  • Minimizing our impact on our planet is probably a good thing.
  • The costs associated with minimizing our impact on the planet must be subject to cost/benefit analysis.
  • The earth does seem to be warming over the short term. This does not mean that it is not a normal cycle.
  • The warming might be aligned with our carbon output, but it also might not be. The atmosphere is a huge thing, with lot of variables that we are still completely unaware of.
  • We should get off oil as soon as possible in an effort to free ourselves financially from the middle east.
  • There are many people out there who will go on and on regarding the absolute certainty of Global Climate Change and the fact that we are the root cause. Most of them I have met have yet to take any steps to modify their carbon impact on the environment.

In light of the recent myspace.com post and other frequently reported similar activities, I thought this local item of interest.  I have to give it to the folks behind it; they were good.  Play on employment related fears to get people to react without thinking or perhaps noticing something is not quite right, and then whammo!, you've got 'em dangling on the end of your line, or in this case, spear.
