Climate chaos? Maybe not…

Just when I had given up on finding anything interesting tonight, This little beauty on “Global Warming” from the telegraph news popped up.

Then I remembered that a couple of weeks ago I was discussing my views (mostly regarding IPCC’s big splashy statements with little scientific proof) on Climate Change theory with a friend of mine, who confronted me with the statement that “There is not one single published scientist who disputes current global warming theory”. I personally believe scientists are often like economists. 50% of them will always disagree with the other 50%. Thus  universal consensus is not possible. I looked up a few links to send him, but got busy and had forgotten about them. Since I found the telegraph article above, I thought I would throw them into the post…

Before anyone goes off into a rant I would like to state that I believe the following:

  • Minimizing our impact on our planet is probably a good thing.
  • The costs associated with minimizing our impact on the planet must be subject to cost/benefit analysis.
  • The earth does seem to be warming over the short term. This does not mean that it is not a normal cycle.
  • The warming might be aligned with our carbon output, but it also might not be. The atmosphere is a huge thing, with lot of variables that we are still completely unaware of.
  • We should get off oil as soon as possible in an effort to free ourselves financially from the middle east.
  • There are many people out there who will go on and on regarding the absolute certainty of Global Climate Change and the fact that we are the root cause. Most of them I have met have yet to take any steps to modify their carbon impact on the environment.
