Nagin begs for Army to police New Orleans again…

Nagin, admits continued failure to successfully manage the crime in New Orleans and begs National Guard to implement Martial Law….

Well ok, not really… But my version is funnier…

Hmmm maybe he was re-elected just because he knew how to get the Feds to foot the bill… I wonder what public outcry you will hear if a member of the Guard shoots someone in downtown…

I remain anxious to see what the summer storm season has in store for the Gulf Coast.  I can’t help but wonder if there are some who hope New Orleans will be hit again, the patches destroyed, and the city again flooded.  The business with asking for martial assistance with civilian criminal issues is interesting, but I have not given sufficient interest to the matters subsequent to the devastation to give an informed opinion.  If the region is hit by another powerful storm, I wonder what they and we will do about it, if anything.  The rebuilding, as I understand it, has barely gotten a toe hold on replacing what was lost.  If it is lost again, will they try again to resurrect it?  I listened to an NPR news report earlier in the month talking about the resurgence of Baton Rouge and the new cooperation between that city and New Orleans.  Competition, at one time, had been fierce, with New Orleans usually winning when it came to getting various goodies that cities seek.  Many business owners have either relocated to Baton Rouge or at least have opened offices/restaurants/etc so that their businesses will not be completely lost should New Orleans be devastated again.  Many former residents of New Orleans have relocated to Baton Rouge, which is now seeing a huge construction boom as result.  Folks who still have jobs in New Orleans are commuting and reason the cost is less than losing everything again and being subject to the deprivations resulting from a storm like Katrina.
