While there is no good way to hide your habits from Big Brother, there are a number of things you can do to make your internet travels much more difficult to follow.
FreeNAS server, an open source NAS (network attached storage) server (You load the software plug it up to a network and configure it via the web. Runs fast and installs easy on any old junky hardware you have around the house.
Everyone needs a server these days… ;-)

Wow, where do I start with this one. I was discussing alternate fuel with a friend the other day and he stated that Bush had slashed the budget for Hydrogen car research. My response was that it was his program anyway, so he was ahead on “tree huggin points”. I was told that he just continued the Clinton hydrogen car plan.
Since I was completely ignorant as to the budgeting and who started the Hydrogen car plans I did some research (please correct me where I’m wrong, as it seems very very difficult to get actual numbers for what the government really spends).
First off from the tone of this article, it appears that the Hydrogen car plan was mostly a Bush effort. Clinton’s effort seemed to be based more around generating much higher fuel economy from gasoline (a worthy goal of 80mpg), and only gave 17 million a year of the plan to Hydrogen fuel cell research. Additionally Clinton’s chief Energy Department official in charge of conservation and alternative energy, Joseph J. Romm, wrote a book called “The Hype about Hydrogen”. So it would appear that officials associated with the Energy Department under Clinton were not very interested in Hydrogen energy.
Bush proposed a 5 year Hydrogen car plan starting in 2003 that would spend 1.2 Billion dollars over 5 years. As far as I can gather the breakdown is as follows:
2003 – 150 Million
2004 – 300 Million
2005 – 320 Million
2006 – 155 Million
2007 – 200 Million (currently proposed)
Which comes up to a little over 1.1 Billion (close enough to 1.2 Billion for round numbers eh). So if the program has a fixed point and is not an ongoing entitlement, the spending would have to be reduced so as to not over-run the budget for the project.
So it would appear to me that the plan is primarily Bush’s and that he spent about what he said he would.
All that said…
I want to know how the government can piss away 1.2 Billion of my tax dollars and I not have a freakin Hydrogen fuel car that I can drive slated for an assembly line somewhere!
I you check gasoline prices in other countries since 1996 it would seem that the rest of the world buys gasoline on the same markets as the US.
I would think the source of our heat could be a player in global warming.

Most Americans Support NSA’s Efforts as long as it protects them from terrorism. Unfortunately the headline should read 51% of Americans too ignorant to realize that they are trading privacy for a false sense of security. Or maybe that 51% of Americans cannot calculate how statistically insiginificant the number of people who died in 9-11 really is.
Well the news does leave one a little sad. It is always a tragedy when you hear about species that you have never seen, has never had any impact on you, and you will never see again. It might not be the big loss many people will claim, as they don’t appear to have much meat on them…
Do-it-yourself: Stop junk mail, email and phone calls
Here is a great collection of information on how to put an end to all that garbage that piles up in your snail mail box
As revenge to those that continue I like to take advantage of their pre-paid envelopes by mailing back their junk and anything else interesting I have lying around.
Feds tell ABC news reporters “We know who you are calling”
I know the headline is over sensationalized, but think about it… The NSA has all of the call records since 2001 (and probably before that). They will not reveal what agencies they share that information with. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that reporters (among other groups) need to be very careful using the phone…
As I read this, and I’ve seen others like it, I am left wondering just who they’ll support if they don’t continue to support those who’ve come closest or made the friendliest noises regarding agenda. I find the threat rather amusing, especially since they’ve made it so public. This undermines their attempts to impose their version of Christian beliefs on all Americans. Surely, they aren’t going to turn to Democrats. While there may be other candidates who are willing to run under the Republican banner, I suspect they aren’t already on ballots because they aren’t viable for federal office, at least not yet. The cleverness of the movement to politicize this so called “Christian Right” has been spectacular. After a series of blunders seeking high office at the federal level, they reorganized and went the route of local & state offices before trying to grab federal seats in the legislative or executive branches. Perhaps they’ll end up biding their time while their candidates acquire the disguises of experience at local & state levels, and learn the art of politics.
Perhaps these folks are finally going to be fed up with unfulfilled promises from the Republican Party for the theocracy they so badly want and form their own party. There are such parties in other parts of the world, though their rhetoric and positions, at least in Europe, are not quite so severe. They’d likely find much in common with the many religious political parties in the Muslim dominated countries. I’ve spoken with many of what I call “Country Club Republicans” over the years who wish the theocrats would leave their party and form one of their own. I always giggle at such desires because they eagerly hopped into bed with them for their votes.
Your thoughts?
Porn Maker Allows Downloads for TV Viewing. I’d like to see what proprietary tech they are using, and $19.95 sounds expensive for a movie (but I have no idea what porn sells for these days), maybe I’m just used to Circuit City first week 14.95 pricing on Hollywood movies…
Now if only Vivid Video would start releasing movies like Xmen instead of XXXmen… ;-)
