So you wanted to talk to a human?

Friday, April 8th, 2005

We’ve all been there before. You know, when you call a
company and get menu after menu of options. And all you
want is to speak with a human being.

Well, now you can find the voice mail codes to reach an
operator. This database lists major companies and the
codes they use.

Note: Registration is required for some of the
site’s features.

Project on Social Security Choice

Wednesday, April 6th, 2005

The Cato Institute has a cute little calculator so you can see for yourself how the Bush plan would change your life…

Be warned however, I do not believe that there is any such thing reliable prediction of future value on investment. The world (and it’s markets) are IMHO not linear (just ask the guys at LTCM)

Godaddy gets boobified

Wednesday, February 9th, 2005

Ok, so I’ve been using godaddy.com for year as my domain registrar, and if you have been living under a rock you haven’t heard the fuss over their superbowl commercial. The full version is funnier, however I’m more than a little disappointed that godaddy, a company that really helped to push the boundaries (and network solutions) to make domain ownership easy, had such a lame concept for a commercial anyway.

The best thing about this one is the question of why their second commercial was dumped for a Simpson’s plug.

Well don’t we all just love MCI

MGM DVD Class Action Settlement

Friday, January 28th, 2005

Apparently there has been a class action lawsuit against MGM. So if you are a big DVD purchaser (and I am) then you should get in line for your settlement… ;-)

I actually received check from the Audio Price Fixing class action suit on CD’s (however it was around $5 if I remember correctly, and I’ve bought around 500 CD’s so you do the math). I’m thinking the price fixing added more than one penny a CD…

Here is some background from the shark’s website:
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Inc., et al.
On December 13, 2002 WCC&P filed a class action complaint, Eallonardo v. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Inc. et al., Los Angeles County Superior Court Case No. BC286950. The complaint alleges that MGM’s advertisements that “widescreen” DVDs provide up to 50% more image than MGM’s standard screen DVDs is false and/or misleading. Plaintiffs allege that the “widescreen” DVDs show the same width of the film as the “standard screen” DVD of the same film. The complaint alleges that defendants violated the unfair competition laws, false advertising laws, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act and committed fraud.

The settlement website is here. Hurry, you must make your claim by March 31st, 2005.

Now that’s a snappy retort

Friday, January 28th, 2005

Ok, so Ted Turner is in the limelight again, with his own special comments. Actually I agree with a good bit of what he has to say, but then again I disagree with a good bit of what Ted has to say. He does have often have a point of view that is new and strangely insightful. But I guess that’s just the liquor talking… ;-)

The treasure of this post is the response from Fox News…

Fox News in New York issued a statement saying, “Ted is understandably bitter having lost his ratings, his network and now his mind – we wish him well.”

Yahoo, Google, and the Luddite

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

Holy poop talk about convergence…

Google and Yahoo duke it out in TV dialog search.

Call me a luddite, but I’m not necessarily sure that the incessant move to make more and more data availaible is a good thing. At least they don’t have my phone number anymore (I wonder how long it will be until our credit scores are google-able via our SSN). Maybe I should look into building barns in Tennessee.

LiquorFilter: a follow-up

Gray Kangaroo Personal Liquor Filters

You can make a undrinkable under-the-bridge whiskey into a sippin’ whiskey. You can take the Tequila face out of cheap Tequila and you can make off brand vodka comparable with super-premium vodka!

The Gray Kangaroo personal Liquor filter is a new product designed to purify hard liquor. Filtered liquor has an improved taste (in many cases competitive with super-premium brands) and reduced negative physical effects (i.e. nausea, headache and hangover). It’s the answer to all of your alcoholic fantasies!!!
