Wow, pay off your credit card and trigger Homeland Security
Ok, this is unconfirmed, but supposedly if you make too large a payment on your credit card at one time the Department of Homeland Security needs to know.
After all no self respecting American would pay off their credit card balance. On the other hand… A terrorist would pay their debt off monthly because they don’t get as many heavenly virgins with a low credit score?

I am not at all surprised by this story. I assume it to be true as Scripps is as reputable a source of news as other large news outlets. Speaking as a cynic, we get both what we want and what we allow from our elected representatives. I remember how bothered I was when the government started requiring paperwork for transactions involving amounts greater than $10,000. As best I can tell, the government has no compelling interest in what we do with our money so long as we aren’t funding criminal enterprises. If money is spent on such things, then it will or should be explored in the course of investigating and prosecuting the enterprises. I’ve heard lots of arguments about pre-emptive policing, but ultimately, the job of policing is a post-crime one. I wonder how long this practice described in the article has been going on and how often it results in what these folkse experienced. I’ve made several payments of that size or larger in recent years and so far, no interference in the transactions. I wonder if these folks were made to pay more interest or penalties as their payment was not applied when it was sent. While that may be of least concern to those who object to such holds as part of the alleged fight against the terrorist boogey man, it is an immediate concern to those making the payments, especially those who are on fixed incomes like that retired teacher named in the article.

That was one of my major breaks with Kerry. I hoped that a Democrat would be a little more gentle with my privacy, but he turned out to be a big supporter of having private banks monitor and report on activity by their customers.
Well that and the whole “I have a plan and it’s better than Bush’s plan”, “what do you mean details, those were the details”… ;-)
I was also hoping for a comment or two on the credit score directly proportional to virgins comment…
