Automatically back up your hard drive

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

For all those who have data they would like to keep forever. We have all learned by now the burnt CD’s and DVD’s are only good for a few years at best, so your best bet is the hard disk juggling routine for backing up your precious data. Here is an article on how to use free software to keep your data backed up over a external drive (you could use a network shared drive just as easy).

Please bear in mind that you could have two simultaneous drive failures, the odds against are very high, but it has happened to me once. I will describe the loss of all my data as being disappointing but somewhat cathartic. :)

New Orleans is walloped by 2 tornadoes. Nagin strangely silent.

Friday, February 3rd, 2006

I wonder if Nagin is picking up the hint. It sure seems to me that if Biblical Wrath is involved, it seems to be pretty selective as to where it is being applied.

I wonder if Nagin is going to call another press conference.

Some days I really believe that our IT department will eventually kill the company I work for. I really like the first comment “You don’t. You fire them and outsource their jobs to India”.

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

It seems that Windows XP can install device drivers that are not necessary for your specific system. Apparently these drivers suck up system resources while giving no benefit to the end user. Here is a quick and dirty article on how to remove these drivers from your Windows XP machine.

Hmmmm 43 Megabit huh?

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

Remember this sounds like a sales pitch for a book, but it looks pretty bad on the RBOC (phone company) side. According to this review the local phone companies collected quite a bit of money to give true fiber to the curb service, but quit the process shortly after they received the money…

Don’t you just love resistance?

Aparently a librarian, together with her Director, refused to let the FBI seize library computers without a warrant. Note that the FBI wanted 30 computers to do with what they wanted. The judge only approved 3 computers, and limited their search to only material they were supposed to be looking for.
