India Quake Survivors Complain of Slow Aid

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

I’m starting to see a pattern. Is is possible that people who have lost homes, loved ones, and posessions will be very frustrated and upset when a news crew shoves a camera and microphone in their face? Do we find it surprising that even as the victims of tragedy are trying to rescue survivors, locate family, and find a way to supply the basic necessities of life (food, water, sanitary conditions, shelter) for themselves and others, that the victims have a hard time understanding that people might be doing all they can to help?

DARPA Grand Challenge 2005

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

It is time for the second annual DARPA Grand Challenge; the unmanned, self guided vehicle race. This years race will cover 132 miles of obstacles in the Mojave Desert.

All the vehicles in the challenge have to sense, think and drive for themselves. Last year this proved to be an insurmountable task as the top participant from the first challenge only managed to complete 7 miles of the 144 mile course. This year’s challengers should be MUCH smarter, so hopefully someone will be able to finish and take the $2,000,000 prize

The Challenge starts on today 10/8/05. You can pickup your updates HERE.

One Bad Mule

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

If you have received the email about a Montana Mule killing a Mountain Lion to protect a couple of dogs (and I bet you have, as I’ve received it 5 times already)…
The picture is real, but the story is fake, the mountain Lion was dead before the mule tossed it around

Ok, this movie is a little beyond just being funny…

Corpse Bride a hit, at least with me!

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

I just saw “The Corpse Bride” and loved every minute of it. Which means it will probably fail miserably at the box office and through the normal system of supply and demand we will get more “Mr and Mrs Smith” quality action films, and less of Tim Burton’s wonderfully twisted artwork.

I highly recommend it to anyone. Will go great for just one, a date, or a family.

If you put an infinite number of marine biologists in an infinite number of boats. All lowering an infinite number of bait encrusted video equipment into an infinite number of oceans…. Eventually you will get pictures of a live giant squid…. Cool!

Bird flu ‘could kill 150m people’

Friday, September 30th, 2005

And it always could have. Ok, so I’m a little annoyed by the fear mongering tactics of the news media (but I expected better from the BBC). This link/post was put here as an example of using high impact insinuative headlines, not as a warning about bird flu.

Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story of the Atlanta Hostage Hero

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Many people were probably not aware of the courthouse shootings here in Atlanta, and the saintly woman who talked the killer down. My favorite exerpt from her story is how she gave Nichols crystal meth (apparently she didn’t have any weed around)
