You gotta love the AT&T side of the story.

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I am definitely not a fan of bandwidth for the sake of bandwidth, but 1.5 megabit down and 128k up is not sufficient for basic service. I smell someone covering their collective recti over taking the governments money for real broadband, then not providing it.

640k ought to be enough for anybody… Oops 1.5 megabit should be enough for anybody

MINOS experiment sheds light on mystery of neutrino disappearances

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I have looked in on the neutrino shifts over the last couple of years. I do not believe this is anything new, but is good explanation of neutrino disappearance.

Religious wackiness and marketing merge again!

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I can see the ad campaign now, "What phone would Judah Macabee
use?"  How about another ad showing the zealots at Masada ordering
pizza with their kosher phone while fending off the Romans?  Maybe Moses calling in an order for parting the Red Sea?

Web 2.0 – a cloud of probability

Ok, everybody has heard all the buzz, But nobody seems to agree on what web 2.0 really is.

Be worried, be very worried, time magazine is in the science industry

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

I’m noticing an alarming lack of science in the Time magazine cover story. To answer the only specific measurement sited as causal in the article, it appears we could make large islands of reflective mylar in the ocean and the earth would stop warming…

Whatisthatfile.com

Beta site set up to help people identify files on their Windows computers by the filename. Whatisthatfile

I’ve always just typed the file name in a search engine (seems safer with more than one source). YMMV…

A load of C.R.A.P. – At The Whiteboard – ZDNet

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

ZDnet Executive Editor David Berlind wants everyone to stop buying DRM CRAP. A little cutsey and not very informative. I couldn’t resist posting, since the video is only available in Real Player or Windows Media Player format (both are based on, and are full of CRAP).

Thousands March in L.A. Over Immigration

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Interesting issue “Everybody deserves the right to a better life” however these rights are granted by our constitution. I’m not sure that constitutional rights protect illegal immigrants.

Hypersonic jet ready for launch

Friday, March 24th, 2006

British defense concern is making ready to test a Scramjet engine this Saturday. After mlaunching the engine on a rocket they will have six seconds to monitor performance before it hits the ground.

I think the statement about the potential for super fast air travel is a bit overblown. There does not seem to be any demand for ramjet engines for the same task.

And the story goes on and on and on…

FCC Chief: AT&T Can Limit Net Bandwidth

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

Well there ya go. Another cost added option will be passed on to the internet consumer. I wonder if we can go to the FCC and ask where all the extra bandwidth we paid (via our taxes/telco tax breaks) for has been put?

That zaney patent office. What will they patent next?

FCC goes after CallerID spoofers

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

I wonder if the ID information sent to the Telcos from IP vendors will become a regulated datastream.
